Healthy Kids, Healthy Futures

About Us

Healthy Kids, Healthy Futures (HKHF) was established in 2009 to prevent early childhood obesity by supporting health promoting environments where young children live (home), learn (preschool), and play (community).

  • HKHF draws on the resources of its institutional funding partner, the Foundation for Boston Centers for Youth & Families (BCYF), and its community partner, Northeastern University, to assist them in expanding the services they are able to offer to families with children disproportionately at risk of obesity through the Family Gym program (previously known as the Open Gym program).
  • Since it was founded in 2009, HKHF’s partners have worked together to develop and implement an effective combination of program components that promote healthy eating and increased physical activity among early childcare providers and families. Through this collaboration, the partners hope to provide a unique contribution to early childhood obesity prevention efforts, both locally and nationally.

While HKHF is no longer in existence, the Family Gym component is still going strong as a program of BCYF. Family Gym is currently not offering any in-person for families, but we have tons of digital resources to share upon request.

Family Gym aims to continue extending access to families by hosting the program at addition BCYF community centers with the assistance of volunteers primarily from Northeastern University and other Boston area colleges and universities.
