Financial aid and Scholarships

Financial Aid

There are a few core options for financial aid outside of the GI Bill here at Northeastern University.

Yellow Ribbon Program – For those veterans with 100% GI Bill, Northeastern has a very generous Yellow Ribbon program. You can find out more information on the DCAVS website dedicated to Yellow Ribbon here.

FAFSA – The Federal Government offers need based grants as well as low interest loans based on an individual’s financial circumstances. If you believe you are eligible or require financial aid in the form of a grant, work-study program, or loan, fill out a FAFSA application on their website and ensure you submit it to Northeastern University. The university also grants a revision to a financial aid package based on a change in circumstance. For more information on the change in circumstance please stop by DCAVS or speak with your financial aid advisor to see if you’re eligible.

Massachusetts office of Financial Assistance – Massachusetts also provides a separate grant/loan process for state residents. This process is automatically started by filling out a FAFSA form. You can find out more information about the MA Financial Aid here.

Book Stipend Booster

In an effort to expand their support for veterans and their dependents, Northeastern University has announced a brand new benefit. They recognize that your Post-9/11 GI Bill book stipend may not be adequate considering the rising cost of textbooks. In some cases, the cost of books can exceed the $1,000 stipend paid out by the VA, and this leaves you to pay the difference.

Northeastern will now offer a book stipend top-up award. If the total cost of your books exceeds $1,000 in any academic year, we will defray that additional cost to you.

How does it work?

Please keep receipts for all of the books you are required to purchase for your classes. If their cost exceeds your Post-9/11 GI Bill book stipend, you’ll need to bring those receipts to DCAVS. Once again, this top-up award is for any amount over $1,000. The difference will be added to your financial aid award package, and the funds will disburse directly to your student account.

Northeastern is extremely proud of thier participation in the Yellow Ribbon Program, and this new benefit is just one more example of how committed they are to serving us.
