Textbook: Linear Algebra with Applications by Otto Bretscher, Prentice Hall, 1997
Grade: 60% in-class tests, 40% final exam

* Course Description


This course introduces linear methods used in mathematics, physical sciences, social sciences, and engineering. The course presents basic concepts, theory, computational algorithms, and applications. Topics covered include:
Chapter 1:  Systems of linear equations, matrices, and Gaussian elimination.
Chapter 2:  Linear transformations, inverses, products.
Chapter 3:  Images and kernels, subspaces of euclidean space, bases and linear independence, dimensions.
Chapter 4:  Orthonormal bases, Gram-Schmidt process and QR-factorization, orthogonal transformations, least squares and data fitting.
Chapter 5:  Determinants.
Chapter 6:  Eigenvalues and eigenvectors.
