Abstract:    We will discuss the topology of the boundary manifold of a regular neighborhood of a projective hypersurface. It turns out that, under certain Hodge theoretic conditions, the cohomology ring of the complement of the hypersurface functorially determines that of the boundary. This result has applications in the study of the Lusternik-Schnirelmann category, the topological complexity, and the resonance varieties of the boundary manifold. This is joint work with Dan Cohen.
