Mars Rover Challenge

Team Lead: Tom Degen – degen.t@northeastern.edu

The Northeastern University Mars Rover Team is made up of 50+ undergraduate students from Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts. The team competed in the 2019 Mars Society University Rover Challenge with our rover Watney Mk. 1 and plans to compete again in 2020. The competition pushed student groups from around the world to design, build, and test a Mars Rover in tasks similar to those a rover will one day need to complete alongside an astronaut. These missions include assisting an astronaut with technical repairs through the use of a robotic arm, collecting and examining rock samples to detect signs of life, and traveling autonomously across unknown terrain.
