BIG Idea 2022

Team Lead: Matthew Schroeter –

We have been accepted! Check us out on NASA’s site, with more details on our project and those of the other finalists here.

The 2022 BIG Idea Challenge is a student competition to develop a mobility system that uses an alternative locomotion modality to traverse extreme lunar terrain [1]. The Northeastern 2022 BIG Idea team consists of 13 undergraduate students from a variety of disciplines. The system we developed over the Fall 2021 semester is the Crater Observing Bio-inspired Rolling Articulator or COBRA for short. COBRA is a multi-modal snake-inspired robot that utilizes slithering and tumbling locomotion to explore Shackleton Crater and measure water ice concentration throughout the crater.
