PROTECT Trainee Xiangyu Li Presents at ALLDATA 2015

On April 19-24th, 2015, Northeastern University Ph.D. PROTECT trainee, Xiangyu Li, presented his paper Big Data Analysis on Puerto Rico Testsite for Exploring Contamination Threats at the ALLDATA 2015 Conference in Barcelona, Spain. His presentation with Prof. David Kaeli highlighted the collaborative work between PROTECT’s Core D and Project 3.

At the conference, Xiangyu attended talks addressing issues in big data, including novel approaches to solving big data problems, and big data frameworks targeting generic workloads. Xiangyu’s current research focuses on utilizing heterogeneous computing clusters for big data analytics. Since his work in PROTECT is a combination of research on big data / heterogeneous computing / machine learning, Xiangyu found that the conference helped broadened his views and knowledge of big data applications and algorithms. He also had the opportunity to exchange ideas with authors and received new insights on big data applications. Xiangyu was able to spend two days visiting the city of Barcelona and seeing the city’s wide range of diversity – mountains and sea, historical sites, delicious food, and a passionate love for soccer. Overall, it was a great conference and a great experience.
