ABSTRACT:

Students will learn the global challenges of water, and why climate adaptation is an integral part of design thinking. Students will also gain exposure to some of the most advanced water focused projects of the Netherlands as well as the mitigation challenges of Bangladesh.

BIO:

Arlen Stawasz has focused his career on researching resilient design strategies for coastal communities. Arlen has conducted extensive research in many cities across the globe to learn from some of the most advanced water societies and their unique conditions of living with water. From policy making to planning, and understanding the human conditions of preparing for and living with flooding or hazard mitigation, his resiliency work is constantly evolving, gaining national and international traction. Arlen is as an Associate Director of the Resilience Task Force at Perkins and Will. He also serves as a co-chair of the Urban Land Institute’s Climate Resilience Committee and teaches an advanced resilient design studio at the Boston Architectural College.
