    As climate change continues to impact the Greater Boston region, policy proposals and regulations designed to electrify infrastructure are continuing to come online. Over the coming decades, individual communities and the state will enact regulations that require both buildings and vehicles to operate without the use of fossil fuels. Owners are also starting to see the benefits of electrification, with long-term cost savings being supported by increased demands from end users for these improvements. While the improvements needed at the individual building or vehicle level are well understood, the broader question remains: where will all this electricity come from and how it will be distributed?

     This session will explore the regional needs for electricity and discuss how Greater Boston will be able to obtain clean sources of energy to support growth and the transition away from fossil fuels. It will also explore the electrical infrastructure required to accommodate demand from the distributors to the end-users. We’ll hear from researchers, operators and providers about the different perspectives on regional energy needs and sources and examine how end users can help shape Boston’s green future.

    Neetu Siddarth

    BXP

    Neetu joined BXP in 2021 as a manager in the sustainability team. Her focus is on strategic initiatives and implementation of decarbonization projects and carbon-neutral operations planning for the 52 million square feet portfolio. Engaging with stakeholders across BXP’s six regional offices, with a focus on carbon neutral & energy efficient operations, renewable energy procurement, decarbonization & electrification of new development and existing buildings, solar PPAs, embodied carbon reduction strategies, transition risk assessment for a low carbon economy, etc. Prior to joining BXP, her work focused on sustainable and high-performance building design consulting and technical analysis, helping projects implement energy efficiency and carbon reduction strategies, and achieve aggressive sustainability goals. Neetu holds a M.Arch from the University of Massachusetts (Amherst) and a B.Arch from the Indian Institute of Technology at Roorkee, India. Prior to arriving in the US, Neetu also worked as a green building architect in India and Singapore.

    Aurora Edington

    Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources

    Aurora Edington is the Electric Grid Policy Manager for the Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources. In her role, Aurora manages electric distribution system policy including topics related to DER interconnection, transportation electrification, and grid modernization. She is actively working with the Grid Modernization Advisory Council to review the drafted electric-sector modernization plans from the electric distribution companies. Previously Aurora was the Policy Director of the GridWise Alliance where she led content development and coordinated member engagement related to grid modernization, EV-grid integration, and federal policy. She also has experience consulting and working at the U.S. Department of Energy. Aurora has a Masters from the Technology and Policy Program at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a B.S. in Environmental Engineering from Yale University.

    Hassan Hamdan

    Arup

    Hassan Hamdan is the Americas Power Consultancy Leader at ARUP, bringing over a decade of industry experience. Hassan has led teams providing technical and financial advisory services for global power projects including offshore wind development, transmission and generation planning, technical transaction advisory and owner engineering services. Prior to joining Arup, Hassan was a Principal of Power Consulting at Mott MacDonald where he was responsible for leading and delivering a wide portfolio of projects in the Americas, growing the power advisory business, and contributing to the growth of the offshore wind sector in the Northeast USA. In his new role, Hassan will focus on utility-scale renewables projects, with a focus on transmission systems, offshore wind, onshore renewables, energy storage and the hydrogen markets.

    Kevin Hagerty

    Vicinity Energy

    Kevin is currently serving as Vicinity’s President and Deputy CEO, overseeing day-to-day business operations with the leadership team reports of Operations, Sales & Account Management, Marketing & Communications, Human Resources, and Engineering/Information Technology. Kevin will also drive the transition to electrification and the delivery of eSteam™ across our systems and work closely with Vicinity’s Chief Executive Officer Bill DiCroce to continue elevating Vicinity’s position as the leader for the decarbonization of North American cities lucky enough to hold district energy systems. In his former role as Technical Officer (CTO), Kevin oversaw the Information Technology (IT), Engineering, Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S), and Technical teams to drive technical performance and innovation and support operations. Kevin has over 20 years of experience in the power industry and had previously worked for Veolia in senior and leadership positions for nearly 10 years. Kevin’s most recent role at Veolia was serving as Senior Vice President of Operations for Veolia North America’s (VNA) East business. Appointed in 2018, Kevin was responsible for VNA’s largest region of business, overseeing over 50 facilities, including the company’s largest district energy systems: Boston and Philadelphia. He graduated from the United States Merchant Marine Academy with a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering. He also achieved an MBA from Boston University.

    Digaunto Chatterjee

    Eversource

    Digaunto Chatterjee is Vice President, System Planning at Eversource. In this role, he is responsible for Transmission and Distribution Reliability and Resiliency Planning, Vegetation Management Planning as well as T&D Standards across Eversource's tri-state footprint. Mr. Chatterjee guides the advanced forecasting, modeling and the technical studies that serve as the foundation to the development of the 10- and 20-Year T&D Reliability and Resilience Capital Plan. These strategic technical studies incorporate scenario based probabilistic forecasts that include impacts of Transmission and Distribution connected Renewable generation, state or federal Electrification goals and mandates as well as more recently impacts of Climate Change. In his Gray Sky role, Mr. Chatterjee serves as the Director of Forecasting Branch charged with enabling efficient Storm Restoration through deployment of dashboards and analytical tools to provide real time visibility of Damage, Crew and Restoration assessment. Mr. Chatterjee served as Vice President, Investment Strategy at GE Capital, where he led fundamental Energy and Capacity market analyses to inform investment decisions of over 2 GW of renewables throughout US. Mr. Chatterjee began his professional career over twenty years ago at GE Energy Consulting performing Engineering studies for utilities both within and outside US. Mr. Chatterjee subsequently worked for MISO where he led Reliability and Economic Transmission Planning as well as Resource Adequacy. At MISO, Mr. Chatterjee successfully led implementation of FERC Orders 890, 1000 as well as Technical studies in support of Zonal Capacity Market construct. Mr. Chatterjee led the reliability justification of MISO's Multi Value Projects planned and constructed to enable about 21 GW of onshore wind across Midwest. Mr. Chatterjee earned his Bachelors in Power Electronics Engineering from Nagpur University, India. He earned his Master’s in Electric Power Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and an MBA from University of Chicago-Booth School of Business. He is a member of Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.
