New research published online in the journal Infor­ma­tion, Communica­tion & Society on December 29, 2015 from NULab core faculty member and Assistant Professor of Communications Studies and Network Science Brooke Foucault Welles and Assistant Professor of Communications Studies Sarah Jackson show that “citizen journalism”– everyday citizens using social media outlets such as Twitter– rather than the national media, is what shaped the national conversation surrounding the shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson, MO in August 2014.
