NULab Faculty Moya Bailey‘s (Assistant Professor of Cultures, Societies, and Global Studies and Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies) concept of “Misogynoir” was discussed and championed recently in Rebecca Ruiz’s Mashable Article “Why you need to know what ‘misogynoir’ means right now“.

“Misogynoir” refers to the specific way black women experience anti-blackness and misogyny simultaneously, with Ruiz walking readers through Bailey’s chronicling of the history of the phenomenon, its current manifestations, its importance, and how “Misogynoir” can be combated.
