QuaranTime Enduro-Goof Race and Extravaganza!

Join other NUHOCers in a race to be completed indecently but celebrated together.

Dates are flexible, do the legs whenever you are available. You can sign up as a team or as an individual! To sign up, just email VP Trips Ian Carver at carver.i@husky.neu.edu and he’ll provide all of the encouragement you need to finish. Remember to respect social distance guidelines in your area!

The race will have 4 legs:
1) Bike 15 miles
2) Hike the nearest mountain (or hill, enough times to equal the elevation of your mountain of choice). This will be difficult to time between all the different mountains sooo please make sure that you climb and descend at least 2000 feet.
3) Trail run 5 miles (can be in your backyard! please don’t choose a crowded trail)
4) Half a mile of whatever form of creative transport you choose: pushing yourself in a rolling office chair, riding in a wheelbarrow, somersaulting, cartwheeling, walking on your hands, etc.
5) Submit at least one (1) neat photo on each leg of the trip.

As a bonus, the team who submits the most photos of different animal species they found during their travels will receive 25% off their time.

Lollygagging and other tomfoolery are encouraged, so don’t let the timed aspect bring you down – special bragging rights are reserved for the team with the weirdest method of transport and goofiest photos.
Record your (or your team members’) time for each leg individually and send them to Ian (still at carver.i@husky.neu.edu). We’ll email out the rankings (and standout wildlife photos) once it’s done so that all can collect bragging rights. Submit your times by midnight Sunday or you’ll be left out of the standings.

Get after it!

New Gear Survey

Hello NUHOC! The gear locker is looking to purchase new gear for the upcoming semester and we want to know your ideas! Fill out this survey to let us know what gear you suggest we stock or update. REMINDER: we do not buy ski gear.

Loj and trip updates

Due to University and state recommendations, we are not currently running any trips to the Loj. Our gear locker is also closed. This is to ensure the safety of our members and all of the communities we interact with. We will continue to keep you updated and make decisions towards safe reopening with university guidelines in mind. Until then, we are active on our social media about other ways you can get involved with our community!

Ikon Pass Discount Details

Hello! We have some Ikon Pass updates for the 2020-21 Ski Season!

Currently, there is a college discount and an updated renewal discount. If you renew a young adult pass from last year the price is $579. This is cheaper than the full college pass. There is no discount for renewing a 19/20 college pass, you just have to buy a new one. Prices are $429 for the base and $609 for the full. These prices will remain the same until November. This cheaper young adult renewal discount lasts until May 26th. If you renew a young adult pass let our ski rep know, for it will count towards club sales!

Also, Ikon announced that they are doing a college program contest. All clubs are entered, whichever sells the most passes the first two weeks of May wins some fun Ikon swag that we can raffle off (hats, t-shirts, a backpack, etc). In addition to the many Ikon Pass benefits, Ikon is providing Adventure Assurance which gives flexibility for the 20/21 winter season by offering you the choice to defer your adventure to the following season, winter 21/22. This will continue to be available to you if you decide to purchase after prices go up on May 27, 2020

If you have any questions or want a discount code please email our pass rep, Justin Flodman, at jdflodman@gmail.com.

3/11/20 – MEETING CANCELLATION

After much deliberation, we have decided to CANCEL our general meeting for this week in response to the university update on COVID-19 that advised against large gatherings. Due to the limitations on university-sanctioned domestic travel, we will also be POSTPONING TRIPS to the Loj for the foreseeable future.

I understand that this news comes as a letdown. Weekly meetings and trips to the Loj provide a sense of structure, belonging, and joy that is especially important such uncertain times. Cancellations aside, we as an E-board care very deeply about the members of our community: your wellbeing, your safety, and your access to the people and activities that make you happy.

I want to take this chance to encourage you all not to let physical distance keep you emotionally isolated. While we may not be able to meet in person, we are all still here and NUHOC-y as ever. Please, reach out to other members of NUHOC, reach out to the E-board at our email (nuhoc.info@gmail.com), and call, Skype, or text your friends regularly.

We are a family, we are in this together, and we consider this a prime chance to support each other in a time of need. If there is anything I can do or any questions I can answer for you, please don’t hesitate to ask. Again, the best place to reach us is at our email nuhoc.info@gmail.com. Thank you all for your time and I wish you the best as we brave this transition.

Loj Design Vote

We received some fantastic designs for the Loj rebuild over the last month and we’ve narrowed our favorites down to three designs. Those lucky designs were converted to CAD diagrams and we’re super excited to show them off, but more importantly, we have a decision to make! Which design should guide our Loj building process? That’s where you come in! We’re holding a VOTE on the designs to help us decide which to move forward with. If you want to express your valued opinion to help shape the future of our dear Loj, follow the link below and fill out the poll to pick your favorite design.

BUT WAIT! NOT SO FAST!
Before you open this poll you should know about the RULES! This vote on designs is open to undergraduates only. Additionally, you MUST enter your active husky email in the poll to verify your status as an undergrad. Additionally to the addition, the poll is closing this Monday on 3/2/20 at noon, so vote now or forever hold your peace. May the best design win!

2/19/20 – General Meeting (NEW Location)

Get ready to rock and roll on over to our next general meeting in a NEW! NEW! NEW! location. Same time, NOT same place. We will be in room 10 of Behrakis, forget all previous rooms, we are now in room 10 of Behrakis. Room! 10! of! Behrakis! Let’s! go!

If you make it there you will be rewarded with a presentation on winter backpacking, announcements from the board, and general companionship from your fellow Huskiers and Outing Clubbers. I really hope we’re all able to find our way to room 10 of Behrakis, I promise it’ll be worth it.
