Abstract:   p-compact groups are a homotopical abstraction of Lie groups and their classifying spaces. Analogues of familiar concepts such as maximal tori and Weyl groups exist. The classification program at odd primes p has been achieved, but not yet for the prime 2. This talk will touch on some of the techniques behind the classification.
