The E-board has been meeting throughout the summer to discuss what club involvement will look like amidst the ongoing pandemic. We want to ensure the safety of each of our members. With the state and university protocols guiding our decisions for how to function in the fall, here is our plan:
All of our general meetings will be virtual through Zoom on Tuesdays from 7-8 PM EST. We will also be holding weekly Design Group meetings on Wednesdays from 7:30-8:30 PM EST. These meetings will be virtual through September and in-person in Curry 318/320/322 starting October 7th!
We plan to have one “social” event every month, such as a Zoom Trivia Night. In September, we will be holding a tie-dye event in a park on Mission Hill. We will be selling t-shirts and masks, as well as tie-dye kits, so we can tie-dye together (6 feet apart and masked, of course).
We will not be charging dues the upcoming semester, unlike previous semesters.
For those interested, we also plan on re-starting our mentee/mentor program, where you can opt in to be a mentee or mentor and be paired with someone else in the club. We will be sending out a Google Form at the beginning of the semester.
STEM Outreach Group
We plan on coming up with STEM activities that can be made into kits and be distributed to local students. We can post videos on this website with instructions on how to complete the activity and provide more background information for students.
We primarily raise money by selling items in Curry Crossroads and through our Husky Starter. However, we are unable to table this semester. We plan hold fundraisers through our social media and sell masks, activity kits to do at home, souvenirs from Ethiopia, etc. Keep an eye out for our Instagram and Facebook!
CSI approved the Design Group’s request to hold small, in-person meetings so that we can begin prototyping our two projects. There will be no food allowed at meetings and everyone will have to wear a mask. Cleaning supplies will be at each meeting to wipe off surfaces and sanitize hands. In addition, people will be required to fill out this COVID form to ensure that you have tested negative before meeting in-person.
Campus to Country
The Campus to Country Group will be mostly working on planning our next Global Health Innovation Summit (hackathon). GHIS is tentatively scheduled to be in early February 2021. We will be reaching out to speakers and mentors to participate. In addition, the Campus to Country Group will be holding virtual journal clubs to bring awareness to global health issues.
