The Office of Polar Programs of the National Science Foundation funds and manages basic research in the Arctic and the Antarctic and provides for its operational support. Raytheon Polar Services Company provides logistic support to the United States Antarctic Program under contract to the National Science Foundation. RPSC operates the three major U.S. facilities in the Antarctic, McMurdo Station, Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station and Palmer Station, as well as the research vessels R/V Nathaniel B.
