Photo of Romolo FochettiThe Viterbo University unit of the Italian Antarctic Program has been developing a research that deals with physiological and evolutionary adaptations of immune system of Antarctic Teleostea. In particular some immuno-relevant genes like T-cell Receptor and cytokines have been analyzed and fish sera have been studied to determine immunoglobulin concentration and chains diversity. Besides, studies of basic morphological asset of lymphoid system system of Teleostea have been carried out.

In this respect during the ICEFISH cruise Romolo Fochetti will sample from collected individuals of targeted species: blood (serum and fixed cells), head kidney, thymus, spleen, intestine, gills (fixed organ slices, fixed cells).
