Is blood really necessary?

On Board

A Research Vessel on a 60-day deployment must be a self-sufficient community. Scientists, crew, and the RPSC science support personnel perform their jobs under the overall leadership of the Captain. The Chief Scientist will direct the scientific aspects of the cruise track planning, establish scientific priorities, and coordinate the activities of scientists in the use of scientific facilities and materials. We will hold regular meetings among the science party, the RPSC personnel, and members of the ship's crew to review progress-to-date and to outline future operations and any needed changes. Because we will be operating during the winter in one of the least hospitable oceans of the world, safety of deck operations is of paramount importance. Obviously, our work plan will be adapted to the prevailing weather conditions.
