Research

Current projects are conducted in partnership with the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA), the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE).

1. Research conducted in partnership with the MBTA involves simulation-based evaluation of transit signal safety systems.

2. Research conducted in partnership with WMATA covers overnight maintenance planning and execution for their rapid transit system, investigating strategies to increase available time and resource utilization for maintenance activities.

3. The DOE project studies a transit-centric smart mobility system, consisting of deep learning for demand prediction, robust optimization for scheduling and reinforcement learning for operations control.
