This weekend the Global Game Jam is taking place in Snell Library! Ticket sales online have closed, but you can still come to the event and pay $22 ‘at the door, while supplies last.’ This money pays for food across the 48-hour event. We encourage anyone from any background to take part in this great event. It doesn’t matter if you’ve developed a hundred games or none at all!

This post is geared to those just starting out. It may come as a surprise to you, but you don’t need to learn how to 3D model or how to program in C++ to make a game and you don’t need to spend any money either. There are a lot of free tools that budding game designers can use to get their feet wet. Here is a list of tools that the Global Game Jam has prepared for jammers. Ludum Dare, which is a popular host of online game jams has a comprehensive list of tools here. Some of these tools are available on Apple or Windows computers in Snell Library. All that said, you don’t even need to make a video game! Board and card games are completely welcome at the Global Game Jam.

We sincerely hope to see you there! Also, next week we’ll be having special guest speakers at our weekly meeting, 7 PM in WVH 108. It’ll be a great time!
