Alpine Skiing (Men's)
NU Alpine Ski Team is a sports team from Northeastern University, competing in the Thompson Division of USCSA’s Eastern Region. Each year, we ski for six weekends of racing, plus postseason, as we attempt to qualify for USCSA National Championships in both men and women’s racing. Check out our progress in the results tab!
Currently, the team counts 31 athletes from across the country, spanning all seven undergraduate colleges. We’re a group of passionate skiers who have decided to spend out weekends traveling up and down the east coast, having fun and ski racing as a team.
We compete in the Thompson Division of USCSA. Find more information about the Thompson Division here.
Want to learn more about the team? Are you visiting campus and want to meet with a current member? If you want to ski race as a Husky, you’ve come to the right place. Either way, let us know you’re here by sending us an email at email@example.com!
Recruitment starts with an initial team meeting early on in the Fall semester, then is followed up by dryland training sessions multiple times per week. Since we cannot hold on-snow tryouts, team membership is allocated based on both previous racing experience (points, FIS/USSA) and on commitment shown during the dryland/preseason phase. Our season starts on the first weekend back from winter break, and is followed by another five weekends of racing. If qualified, the team then progresses to USCSA Eastern Regionals, and eventually USCSA Nationals. Regionals are held on the East Coast every year, whereas the Nationals event alternates, between East and West Coast.
Since the 2015 season, we have only been able to consider athletes with previous racing experience for membership. Unfortunately, the volume of aspiring skiers exceeds our capacity. We would like to see everyone ski, however we simply can’t accommodate everyone.
But fear not! For everyone who enjoys the winter and hitting the slopes as we do, there are other resources on campus. Aspiring skiers can reach out to the NU Downhillers Club, an organization which organizes weekly trips to popular East Coast resorts. Cost is per weekend, and tickets go on sale on myNEU a few days before the weekend trip. Find them here.
