The avatar or the protagonist of the book concerns the game Levee Patroller. It concerns the avatar, because the idea of Triadic Game Design was born while I was designing this game. The first version was released in 2006 and since then I have been shaping this design philosophy, by looking at other games, being closely involved in other design processes, and setting up a workshop. And now it is written down in a book.

The purpose of the game is to train "levee patrollers" the knowledge and skills to inspect levees. These patrollers are professionals who inspect levees regularly but especially in case of emergencies. Levees (or dikes/ dykes) are the natural or artificial barriers that protect the land from flooding.

The game is currently being used by a number of organizations. Derivative products, like the simplified version we have called Levee Arcader, are used for conferences and education.
