Recruitment starts with an initial potential athletes meeting early on in the Fall semester. Follwoing the meeting, dryland training sessions are held multiple times per week. Since we cannot hold on-snow tryouts, team membership is allocated based on both previous racing experience (points, FIS/USSA), film if athletes are able to provide any, and commitment shown during the dryland/preseason phase. Our season starts the first weekend back from winter break, and is followed by another five weekends of racing. If the team qualifies, we progress to USCSA Eastern Regionals, and then USCSA Nationals. Regionals are held on the East Coast every year, whereas the Nationals alternates, between East and West Coast.
Since the 2015 season, we have only been able to consider athletes with previous racing experience for membership. Unfortunately, the volume of aspiring skiers exceeds our capacity. We would like to see everyone ski, however we simply can’t accommodate everyone.
But fear not! For everyone who enjoys the winter and hitting the slopes as we do, there are other resources on campus. Aspiring skiers can reach out to the NU Downhillers Club, an organization which organizes weekly trips to popular East Coast resorts. Cost is per weekend, and tickets go on sale on myNEU a few days before the weekend trip. Find them here.
